- The album opens with snapshots of the travelers embarking aboard the R.M.S. "Oropesa" on Armistice Day 1929, bound from Liverpool to the port of Callao, Peru. The photographer's traveling companion, Ernest, is pictured with fellow passengers--"stable companions"--on deck. Another photo shows contestants in a potato race on board. Other photos document stops en route in Havana, Cuba, Kingston, Jamaica, and the Panama Canal. In Lima, the photographer, Ernest, and a friend, Mrs. Sage, pose in front of the Rospigliosi Castle, built in 1929 by the wealthy doctor Carlos Rospigliosi Vigil in honor of the visit of King Alfonso XIII of Spain to Lima. From Callao, the photographer and Ernest begin the journey to Llanca by car, driving on rocky and dusty roads; they stop along the way to fill up the radiator with water, repair a flat tire, and rescue the car after it has run off the road. They stop for the night in the small town of Casma, before reaching their destination: a cattle ranch in Llanca, Peru, near Yungay in Ancash region, belonging to their friends "Kath and Raul" and their three young children. There are photos of the ranch house and patio, the children astride horses and playing in the nearby river, the two men Ernest and Raul riding out to see the cattle, ranch hands marking cattle, a rodeo scene, and the cathedral in town, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Numerous photos portray native Indians who work on the ranch, or are employed by the family as nanny and cook, and there are also many landscape photos, including a postcard from nearby Huarás. One unusual photo is captioned "The first broadcast behind the house," and shows six men standing on a rocky hill, one with a short wave radio, and two others in front of a microphone. The last photo in the album is a formal portrait (13.7 x 8.5 cm) of "Kath," Kathleen Zoila Vizcarra, at the age of five. Visible is the embossed name of the photographer, D. Goyzueta, Lima, Peru. Laid in is large photo (11.7 x 17.6 cm) of a wedding party, with a pencil note on verso in the hand of the photographer, describing the custom in Peru of having a godmother and godfather for a wedding, rather than a best man. The photo bears the stamp of the Foto "Star" studio in Rimac of Lucio M. Chumbes A. Also included is a small watercolor of the patio of the ranch house in Llanca by Ernest, signed "E.S." [Ernest Smiff?] and dated Sept. 1930
