- Spec. Coll. Edgeworth Library copy: Ownership signature on title page: "Maria Edgeworth". Sheep, stamped in gilt; top edge gilt. Various notes in different hands are pencilled across the free endleaves at the front, including this note: "In the December 1926 number of 'The Fortnightly Review' I wrote an article on 'The Art of Cutting' --A.C.R. Carter" [i.e., Albert Charles Robinson Carter, to which someone else has pencilled:] "Famous book authority". The article itself is found it "Number DCCVIII. New Series. December 1, 1925" of that Review. It provides more explanation of "cutting" and also discusses the "anonymous publication" described in this record; on p. 816, he notes that he himself possesses this [exact] book, and also alludes to its proximity to the publication of Maria Edgeworth's Fashionable tales (which came out the next year). Nearly the last half of the article discusses the aptness of the illustrations to the topic. Purchase, D&E Lake, 2008.
