Note
  • Probably printed by heirs of Nicolò Bevilacqua, whose device appears on t.p. (although the same device was also used by Tarino; cf. Ascarelli & Menato. La tipografia del '500 in Italia, p. 222, 224). The present volume is one of two eds. to bear the name of Domenico Tarino, who was only active for one year (the other work he published was the 1579 "Locutioni dell'epistole di Cicerone, scielta da Aldo Manutio"). He was the first of his family in the book trade, and acted exclusively as publisher. His brother, Giovanni Domenico Tarino, later set up shop on his own account, and the heirs continued the business to the mid-17th century. Without types and a press, however, Domenico Tarino employed the heirs of Nicolò Bevilacqua to print this octavo ed. of Valerius Maximus, as well as the Ciceronian phrase book. Cf. Marina Bersano Begey, Le cinquecentine piemontesi: Torino. (Torino: Tipografia torinese editrice, 1961), v. 1, p. 505-506

  • Printed in italic type; the "Vita" is printed in large roman type, the marginal notes in small roman
  • "Valerii Maximi vita" by Gaius Titius Probus on leaves A2 and A3
