Note
  • Leaves are foliated
  • Text printed in italic type; spaces left for capitals, with guide letters
  • "Pellibus exiguis arctatur Liuius ingens quem mea non totum bibliotecha capit"
  • "Augustinus Becharius sacerdos studiosis salutem" -- T.p. verso
  • According to Baudrier, this edition. cannot be considered an Aldine contrefaction, given that Liber 33 in v.3 has been entirely omitted (its place on recto of leaf 46 marked only with the sentence: "Tertium huius Decadis librum quantum ex xxxiij abbreuiatione aduertere potui integrum desiderauimus"), and the second half of Liber 40 is also missing. The omissions indicate that this edition. antedates the Aldine edition of 1518-1520, in which the missing sections have been replaced
  • Renouard describes v. 1-2 (but not v. 3) of this edition; see Annales de l'imprimerie des Alde, p. 498 under heading "Page 310."
Dimensions
16-17 cm (8vo)

3 volumes
Note
  • Spec. Coll. copy: imperfect, volume 1 wanting.
  • Spec. Coll. copy volume 2: has 296 numbered leaves; signed A-2O8. Bound in brown calf once richly gilt on covers, in the style of the aldine bindings of the day; foliate roll-borders, vine-leaf tools and central lozenge tool in arabesque style once tooled in gilt, only a few gilt touches remaining; spine rebacked in a similar style, possibly early 20th century; contemporary gilt gauffered edges in knotwork pattern. Dealers' notes on front pastedown ("Sotheby's 6/VII/1955 lot 38") and back endleaf ("“Lyon ca 1510 vol. II of 3 vols. This volume perfect. EP [QP?] 4/8/55”). Purchase, Paolo Rambaldi, 2016.
  • Spec. Coll. copy volume 3: has 231 numbered leaves, and one unnumbered final blank leaf; signed 3A-4F8. Brown leather binding; ornamental blind rolled border; featuring a running grapevine of leaves and fruit; three ornamental blind-stamped lozenge centerpieces; blind ruled "X" in each of four spine panels. Old ownership inscription on front free endpaper, "Ex libris Augustini de Tillis a Castro Florentino," (Agostino Tilli of Castelfiorentino). Purchase, Paolo Rambaldi, 1997.
