Dr. Chester W. Topp gives the publication history of this title in various entries of his multivolume study on Victorian yellowbacks and paperbacks. The section in v. 9 for J. & C. Brown & Co's yellowback publications specifies that this title came out in 2 editions in 1857, one as a 3 shilling, 6 pence (crimson) cloth ed. with 12 ills. and the other as a 2-shilling yellowback ed. with no ills. Both are undated but can be traced to 1857, because their respective publications were announced in the April 18, 1857 and May 9, 1857 issues of the Athenaeum, as well as another for the 2 shilling ed. in The Publisher's circular and booksellers' record (London) for May 1-14 of the same year
