Summary expansion
To educate his readers, who were probably unfamiliar with the new art of photography, Talbot tipped in a notice explaining that the photographs had been "impressed by the agency of Light alone, without any aid whatsoever from the artist's pencil." Photographs include architectural studies, landscape and cityscape scenes, still-lifes, and facsimiles of pages of text, sculpture, and prints. Each plate is accompanied by [2] pages of text, describing the scene and explaining the process involved in producing the photograph. Also included in Part 1 are "Introductory Remarks," and "Brief Historical Sketch of the Invention of the Art."
