Note
  • Consists in part of rearranged extracts from "A complete system of pyrotechny, or The art of making fire-works", appended to Endless amusement (London, ca. 1819 and later eds.)
  • "Dean and Munday, Printers, Threadneedle-street, London."--Colophon
  • A variant edition has imprint: London : Printed and sold by Dean and Munday. The variant, as cataloged by the New York Public Library and Pennsylvania State University, includes a colored frontispiece by I.R. Cruikshank; the present edition has an anonymous frontispiece executed in etching and aquatint, hand-colored, depicting five scenes (the large scene in the center captioned "Grand temple of fire works in gold silver and coloured fires exported"), with imprint, "London Published by Dean & Munday, 35, Threadneedle Street."
  • Philip's entry G130.1, based on the NYPL copy (via NUC pre-1956 NG 0547492) and a British Library copy (8715.aa. 26), may conflate the two (or more?) editions. Philip reports 22 p., almost certainly erroneously: the NYPL catalog gives 26 p.; the BL catalog does not give the pagination, though its record for another copy (1489.pp. 42) also gives 26 p
  • Date of publication conjectural: NYPL and Penn State give 1819 (for the variant ed.); BL gives "1819" for 8715.aa.15, and "[c. 1830]" for 1489.pp.42 (neither BL record is detailed enough to permit identification with a particular variant)
  • Collation: B-C6 [$1,3 signed]; 12 leaves, pp. [3-5] 6-26 + frt
  • Text includes wood-engraved illustrations
  • Includes index
