- The sketches were made by Moran during F.V. Hayden's expedition to northwestern Wyoming in 1871 to survey what would become Yellowstone National Park. The views were printed on card using numerous lithographic stones to give incredible depth of color and re-create the appearance of the original watercolors (information from Donald Heald Rare Books website, which includes images of the prints)
