Summary
Rother discusses his early years traveling in California before settling in San Francisco in 1902, his illness that prompted him to join the Sierra Club, his participation on club outings and his memories of John Muir and William Colby. Major topics covered include his first trip to Yosemite, the division in the club created over the fate of Hetch Hetchy Valley, and the old guard's opposition to the club's change in direction since the 1960s
Biographical or historical data
Rother joined the Sierra Club in 1909 to participate on a summer outing to Yosemite National Park. During the following years, he explored the Sierra Nevada on numerous other club outings and on private excursions with club members. He was active in the club's local walks in the San Francisco Bay Area and served as chairman of the local walks committee in the 1910s.
