  • A collection rich in early printed books, French, Italian and Spanish works, rare voyages and travels, etc., but especially famous for fine bindings; left by William Beckford to his younger daughter, the Duchess of Hamilton, and removed after his death, 1844, to Hamilton palace, but kept apart from the Hamilton collections. The 4 sales consisted of 9,837 lots in all; the total realized was, £73,551, 18s

[London : Dryden press, 1882]-[1883]; all bound in 1 vol. of half leather and green marbled paper over boards. All edges are cut, reducing the size of the vol. to 26 cm. still leaving ample margins on every side. The subsequent 4 booklets for this library as well as the 1 for the Hamilton library giving "Prices and purchasers' names" have all been bound in at the end of the vol., in the order of the sales.
  • Spec. Coll. copy 2: 4 vols. bound in 3, with the 3rd and 4th "portions" bound together and comprising v. 3. In half leather, red marbled paper over boards; all edges uncut. The 4 subsequent booklets with "Prices and purchasers' names" have each been bound in at the end of the "portion" (vol.) related to its sale. With an engraved portrait of Beckford by Sir J. Reynolds tipped into the 1st vol. Ex libris Brooke Whiting.
