Note
  • This is the second of two volumes of this Annual that were published. According to the Oxford companion to children's literature, "The book has some claim to be the first annual for children in England. The Chrismas box contained an eclectic mix of stories, verses, plays, and articles, among them a brief history of the Napoleonic wars.... Contributory authors such as Maria Edgeworth and Mary Howtit, along with the humorist and practical joker Theodore Hook, illustrate The Christmas Box's unusual mix of the comic and the moral, which prompted F.I.H. Darton to call it 'head of its time'" (page 127)
  • Contains the first printing of Maria Edgeworth's Garry Owen, or, The snow woman
