Spec. Coll. copy: is the earlier of two editions printed by Renner in 1472, with colophon on verso of final leaf. Illuminated initial "M" at beginning of text (recto of leaf [1]3) painted by Gioacchino de Gigantibus, featuring partial white-vine stem border in gilt, blue, green, maroon, and mustard along left margin; capitals hand-colored in red or blue ink. Some marginal annotations and manicules (pointing fingers) in an early hand. Quarter-bound beveled boards and tan roll-stamped leather, featuring vertical rows of small medallions and lozenges containing stamps of eagles and stags; two pair of metal clasps along fore-edges of covers. Small square bookplate in blue and white of W[ynne] R[ice] H[ugh] J[eudwine] on verso of upper board, featuring a scorpion centerpiece, and the initials "W", "R", "H", and "J" in each corner. In modern beige cloth and brown leather clamshell box, with box title "Caraccioli. Sermones Quadragesimales. 1472." Purchased by James Davis from the collection of English print dealer W. R. H. Jeudwine (1920-1984), at the Bloomsbury Book Auctions in London, Sept. 18, 1984.
