Imp[re]ssum Venetijs: P[er] Lazaru[m] Soardu[m], anno D[omi]ni 1509 die 10 Iulij [10 July 1509]; and Sacre theologie doctoris eximii Ricardi de Mediauilla seraphyci ordinis Minorum professoris In secundu[m] sententiaru[m] questio[n]es solidissime. Venetijs: Per Lazarum Soardum die xxviij Martij M.D.IX [28 Mar. 1509]. Bound in 17th-century reversed calf over original wooden boards; 18th-century rebacking; upper and lower boards paneled alike, with inner and outer blind-ruled rectangles; gild-ruled spine; brass corner braces; remnants of leather and brass clasps and catches; manuscript title on fore-edges "Ricardus d[e] Mediavilla su[per] I. & 2 Sente[n]tia[rum];" above are the arms of Cosimo I de' Medici in red, yellow, and brown ink; below are the arms in yellow and brown of his wife Eleanora of Toledo, daughter of the Viceroy of Naples. The books were acquired after their marriage in 1539, but before 1549 when Cosimo I began combining the charges on a single shield (see A. Marquand, Robbia heraldry, no. 381). Printed book ticket on title page of the Marqués de Astorga (see Palau 19136); and ownership inkstamps of the Augustinians of the Assumption at Louvain ("'S. Convent Augustin ab Assumptione apud Lovanienses") and Lormoy ("Saint Augustin Lormoy"). Purchase, Bruce McKittrick, 2001.
