Summary expansion
However, it was not Piccolomini who finally published the Caeremoniale but Cristoforo Marcello, archbishop-elect of Corfu, who added a dedication to Pope Leo X. The 1516 edition is based on Patrizi's version of 30 years earlier, faithfully following Patrizi's text, with the only changes being those resulting from printing errors. However, Marcello did not recognize the work of Patrizi on the title page, failed to correct printing errors, and made public the sacred ceremonies of the papal chapel, leading to a demand, in particular by the papal master of ceremonies at the time Paride Grassi, that all copies of the Caeremoniale be suppressed. For detailed information on the publishing history of the Caeremoniale, see N.H. Minnich, H.W. Pfeiffer, "Two woodcuts of Lateran V," Archivum Historiae Pontificae 8 (1970): 179-214, especially page 183; see also Biographie Universelle XXXIX, page 342
