Note
Spec. Coll. copy: first vol. of a made-up set put together by former owner, Patrick Miller (whose ownership is marked in each vol. on free endleaf: "Patrick Miller, Nov. 1755"). Miller (1731-1815) was a strong supporter of Robert Burns, was made director of the Bank of Scotland in 1767 and owned a mansion near Dumfries, in Dalswinton, the locus of various experiments related to inventions and where his library was. This set has a note, also on the free endleaf: "Bought at the sale of the Dalswinton Library. March 1820." A short article about the set (from late 1800s?) is taped onto pastedown in v.1. Purchase, H. Wohlmuth, 1990.
