Aldi Romani, Octobri mense MDII [1502]; and Severini Boetii De philosophiae consolatione; eiusdem De scholastica disciplina, qui alii quoque autori a nonnullis adscribitur. Florentiae sumptibus Philippi de Giunta Florentini MDXIII mense Septembri [1513]. Bound in 16th-century red goatskin over bevelled wooden boards, panelled in blind, with triple fillet frames, and inner rolled floral border; three 4-part lozenge-shaped centerpieces, arranged vertically, with small rosette corner-pieces; blind-ruled spine panels; two pairs of brass and leather clasps and catches on fore-edges of cover, with remnants of two additional pairs on upper and lower edges; edges stained pale yellow; front and back pastedowns are vellum leaves from a 14th-century Italian ms. in Latin, in brown and red ink. Ownership inscription on t.p., "Philippi Baldachini coritani a Dni. MDXVj die xxj ianuarij," of Filippo Baldachino of Cortona, author of Predica damore (Florence 1510), and Fortuna (Perugia 1526); bookplate of Templeton Crocker on front free endpaper. Formerly laid in: letter from E. Gordon Duff regarding this volume, addressed "Dear Sir," and dated May 18, 1924; now in Collection 100/186. Marginal ms. annotations and underlinings throughout. In modern mustard brown cloth phase box, in matching mustard brown marbled paper and vellum slipcase, with gold-stamped spine title "Valerius Maximus. Aldus."
