Bartholomaeus Merula may have been related to Giorgio Merula (1424-1494) who was active in the revival of learning, including the editing of Ovid, a favorite author during the Renaissance. The Libri de Pontooo are probably the last of his compositions to survive intact

  • Printing privilege from title page: "Notum omnibus fit sanctissimum in Christo patrem [et] dominum nostrum Julium Pontificem secundum huius operis gratiam concesisse Ioanni Tacuino: cauisseq[ue] ne quis illud imprimere audeat sub ex communicationis latae sententiae pena, a qua nisi in mortis articulo ab eius sanctitate absolui possit: praeter censuram amissionis librorum huiusmodi impressorum a ducali dominio impositam."

  • Numberous errors in foliation, including omission of XLIII-XLVIII in numbering
