Spec. Coll. copy: contains seven illuminated initials, one at the beginning of the two preliminary notes, and one at the beginning of each of the five books, in gold, red, blue, and green. Bound for Jean Grolier in 16th-century brown calf, paneled in gilt ruled and ornamental rolled borders; lozenge centerpiece composed of a cluster of gilt ornaments; gilt corner-pieces; spine panels filled with small gilt fleur-de-lis; all edges gilt. Ownership inscription on leaf 71 of Jean Grolier: "Io. Grolierij Lugdunen. et amicorum." In dark brown leather and black cloth clamshell box lined in black velvet; gold-stamped spine title "Aldus. Polybius. Bound for Grolier. 1521." Purchase, before 1979.
