[1]-[184]), with caption title "Iohannis Petri Vallae in Plautinas Comoedias commentationes", contains the commentaries of Giovanni Pietro Valla. Second part (p. [185]-[696], with caption title "Bernardi Saraceni Veneti in Plautinas Comoedias emendationes et enarrationes", contains the comedies of Plautus, with the additions and commentaries of Bernardus Saracenus

Coll. copy: opening initial "P" in blue ink, decorated with elaborate pen tracery in red and blue, featuring arabesques, flourishes, and a grotesque head along upper and left margins; other initials throughout text supplied over guide letters in red or blue ink, in an ornamental style; section markers in red.
  • Spec. Coll. copy: t.p. decorated with a drawing in brown and green watercolor of a broad ribbon looped around the printed title; other loops of the ribbon contain inscriptions and owners' names in Latin and Greek, with dates of 1503, 1506, and 1527 in brown ink; extensive ms. annotations throughout; a former owner's coat-of-arms painted in watercolor over printer's mark at end. Bound in original oak boards, with pigskin backstrip, lettered in ms. with title "Comoediae Plauti"; two pairs of leather and brass clasps at edges of boards (one pair is intact); text block reinforced with strips from an early (14th-cent.?) Latin vellum ms., lettered in brown ink with red captions. In modern beige linen and tan leather clamshell box, with gold-stamped box title "Plautus. Comediae". Purchase, Kenneth Karmiole, 1985.
