- Summary expansion
- The album opens with six photos of Koko Head Crater on Oahu, and a seventh loose photo shows the radio transmission towers at Kahuku used by the women pilots. Included are snapshots at various locations including Mills Field (now San Francisco International Airport] in San Francisco 1930 and 1931; San Francisco Municipal Airport 1932; Long Beach 1931; Glendale Airport 1932, Clover Field in Santa Monica 1932, and the Los Angeles Air Races of 1933. There are a few photos taken while in flight. The participants are largely identified in ink in the margins of the photographs, and include several charter members of the Bay Cities Chapter of the Ninety-Nines: Ruth Marshall Rueckert, Afton Lewis Giacomini, and Marguerette "Rita" Gerry Hart; as well as Marjorie Hook, Janet Knight, Hilda Jarmouth, Kay Nidick, Dolores Guinther, and Gladys O'Donnell. One photo shows Ruth Marshall Rueckert in the uniform of the Betsy Ross Air Corps, a 1929-1933 organization of female pilots formed as a semi-military service to support the Army Air Corps. Several photos portray other pilots: Dick Burtz, A.R. "Tommy" Thompson, Joe Zanino, Fred Rueckert, Willard Douglas, and Alexander Schwartz. The women's flying organization "The Ninety-Nines," had been founded in 1929 at Curtiss Field, Valley Stream, Long Island, for the purposes of mutual support, advancement of aviation, and documentation of women pilots. Amelia Earhart was elected as the first president in 1931. The name Ninety Nines represented the 99 charter members of the organization. One of the pilots, Ruth Marshall Rueckert, appears in a large number of the images, and the album was most likely assembled by her during the 1930s
