Summary expansion
The album opens with photos of the family bungalow in Hollywood, several with groups of family members standing in front. One photo appears to record a crowd of people lining the street waiting for a parade to begin, perhaps the Fiesta of Flowers parade of 1919, as the caption reads "We went for flowers." Included are photos documenting visits of the photographer and friends to Exposition Park, Seal Beach, swimming, hiking, and picnicking in Arroyo Seco, climbing Mt. Wilson, and camping at Sturdevant's Camp in Santa Anita Canyon. The campers ride donkeys loaded with their camping gear to campsites where large striped tents are set up for very comfortable camping; one young boy lounges on a bed covered with a patchwork quilt! Many of the photos show family and friends hiking, either with trekking poles or on horseback--in the nearby hills, past the Mt. Wilson Observatory, towering yucca plants, and high waterfalls. A large party of friends camps at "Sandemis," possibly San Dimas. There are also day trips to Riverside and the Mission Inn, Venice Beach, the Japan Tea Pavilion, originally built in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition in San Diego, Mt. Rubidoux in Riverside, Mt. Hollywood, and Pacific Palisades. Other photos document trips to the Grand Canyon on burros, and Tijuana and San Diego on July 4, 1923. There is also a photo of "Lillian"--the photographer's sister?--at Berkeley, and other views, dated 1923, of the Greek Theater at Berkeley, other campus buildings, and Lillian in her cap and gown at graduation. There are nine pages of photos of Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, with numerous shots of the waterfalls: Yosemite, Nevada, Vernal, and Bridal Veil; views of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, as well as stock photos of Kings Canyon National Park. Two photos document a wedding outdoors. The album concludes with photos of small children, including one dated June 1945. Laid in are a postcard postmarked May 20, 1914 in Los Angeles, from "Frances" at 2017 Echo Park Avenue, addressed to Mrs. Geo. P. Fisher of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania; and a fragment of a handwritten note addressed to "Helen," dated Sept. 11, 1954
