- Summary expansion
- The album contains both large professional photographs and small amateur snapshots, suggesting that perhaps it was compiled by an official ship's photographer, possibly a crewmember or employee of the White Star Line which operated the "Megantic" a photo of which opens the album, and which made regular cruises from New York to the Caribbean in January and February. White uniformed crewmembers figure prominently in many of the photographs, as do groups of cruise passengers enjoying excursions ashore during a Caribbean cruise. The album opens with 18 large photographs of "Her Ladyship 'Megantic,'" passengers posing in front of a blockhouse and cannon on San Juan Hill in Santiago, Cuba; going ashore in the ship's lifeboats to visit Morro Castle in Havana; crewmembers at the Gatun Locks and the Pedro Miguel Locks in the Panama Canal, and a view of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands from the Megantic's deck. There are also views of Jamaican women washing clothes at Buff Bay; the port of La Guaira, Venezuela and its mountainous coastline, where passengers board a train for Caracas; the winding mountain railway enroute to Caracas; ruins in Fort de France, Martinique; native open-air market in Haiti; a jungle landscape in Trinidad; young boys diving for coins from rowboats in Barbados; and a coastal view of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Smaller snapshots of similar scenes document additional stops in the ship's itinerary at Nassau, Bahamas; St. Pierre, Martinique; and Kingston, Jamaica. Two photos taken on deck of the "Megantic" during rough seas show swells crashing on deck. Also pictured are Queens Park in Barbados, the Princess Hotel in Bermuda, the Bibliothèque Société in Martinique; the Episcopal Church in Colón; St. François Valley in Trinidad, the wharf in Kingston, Jamaica; Willemstad, Curaçao; and Fort Fincastle in Nassau. Scattered throughout the album are miscellaneous photos of New York harbor, Honolulu, Quebec, Canada, Laplanders in Norway, and one photo of the British prime minister David Lloyd George in Genoa, Italy, probably taken when he attended the economic summit conference held in Genoa in 1922. Twenty-four small photos document a visit to the British Empire Exhibition in Wembley Park, London on July 29, 1925; there are photos of pavilions of India, Canada, Burma, Australia, Cyprus, Southern Rhodesia, and East Africa; the exhibit's amusement features, the Golden Hind, Treasure Island, and Noah's Ark; and the Canadian Pacific Miniature Railway. Among the last of the photos are several portraits of native men and women, and local marketplaces, possibly from India, Burma, or Indonesia
