Note
  • First "pocket" ed. of the original Greek text of Philostratus' Imagines, a work of major importance in the history of art as the earliest systematic description and criticism of art works, represented here by paintings in a Neapolitan collection. Also included are Philostratus' Heroicus, and Lives of the sophists; a second series of Imagines, written by a younger relative of his, probably Philostratus the Lemnian; and Callistratus' Descriptions
  • Main title romanized from Greek
  • Imprint from colophon
  • Printed in Greek type; spaces left for capitals, with guide letters
  • Woodcut: small printer's device on last p. (the Giunta fleur-de-lis, with printer's initials "L.A.", flanked by two putti and encircled within a wreath of fruit and leaves)
  • Signatures: 3A-3Y8

16 cm. (8vo)
Extent
368 [i.e. 338] , [14] p.
