Octobris [12 Oct. 1496]. Pillone binding in contemporary blind tooled brown goatskin over bevelled wooden boards, identified by A.R.A. Hobson as Belluno Bindery B, which he now calls the Stork and Pelican Binder; rectangular center panel within intersecting rolled borders of rules, strapwork, and x's; scalloped circular centerpiece; raised bands; clasps and hatches; fore edge painting and designs on top and bottom by Titian's cousin, Cesare Vecellio. Bookplates of Bibliothèque Pillone (Pierre Berès) (no. 42) and Thomas Brooke, F.S.A., Armitage Bridge; for more information on the Pillone library, see A.R.A. Hobson, "The Pillone Library," in The book collector 7 (1958), 28-37.
