Telescopic peep show depicting gardens and palace at Versailles; three numbered and two unnumbered hand-colored engraved plates depicting strolling visitors among fountains and tree-lined pedestrian boulevards. Four cut-out panels and backdrop plate connected at top and bottom and to stiff covers by accordion-pleated paper; final plate mounted on lower cover. Upper cover has one square central peep hole and two round lateral peep holes; palace and monumental gate depicted on hand-colored engraved paper onlay on upper cover; hand-colored paper onlays mounted on loose-fitting plugs pasted on first fold of bottom band, completing the cover scene when the peep show is closed and moving out of view when peep show is stretched open
