Summary expansion
With the office buildings, warehouses, and garages of the company in the background, a line of 96 men stretches across the entire photograph from left to right, some standing, some perched on their trucks, and three men sitting on a small bulldozer in front. In the far background to the left, a field of wooden oil derricks is visible. CCMO began drilling in the Torrance area in February of 1921, the first strike occurring in what came to be known as the Del Amo oil field. As the company opened new wells, derricks sprang up across the southern half of the city, stretching from the Southwood area to present-day Harbor City and Wilmington. A boom town of oil workers appeared near Arlington Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard.
