Summary expansion
This panorama is very similar to larger ones created by Pascal Sebah whose studio operated in Istanbul from 1860 to 1910, in the last twenty years under the direction of his son Jean Pascal Sebah and his partner Policarpe Joaillier; see Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-Century Photography, edited by John Hannavy, pp. 1730-1734. The present panorama may be a smaller 6-part verson of Sebah's10-part panorama of Constantinople issued during the 1880s with the title "Panorama de Constantinople, pris de La Tour de Galata." It offers a sweeping view of the city from the Galata Tower, looking across the Galata neighborhood towards the Bosporous, and the Goldlen Horn harbor beyond. Also visible are the city walls, the great mosques of Sultan Ahmed and Santa Sophia, the 'Green Mosque' and the Mosque of Oulon
