Summary expansion
The panorama was pubished by the local studio of Mertens & Sichel, one of the oldest enterprises in Namibia. Large and sharp, the photograph offers a great view of the beginning of present-day downtown Windhoek. The Alte Feste fort can be seen at the far right, and the newly-constructed building of the High Court (Alte Bezirksgerichte) is in the center; piles of bricks prepared for construction lay in the foreground. The verso of the fourth panel bears the ownership inkstamp of the 4. Proviantkolonne of the Schutztruppe, the German colonial troops stationed in German South-West Africa between 1890 and 1918
