Ouidii Nasonis Metamorphoseos liber primus;" with caption title on leaf signed 2 reading "Bonus Accursius Pisanus salute[m] dicit plurima[m] magnifico equiti aurato & sapientissimo ac primo ducali secretarie Ciccho Simonetae;" colophon reads "Ab Hermano Leuilapi de Vicentiae impressa MCCCCLXXX pridie idus Aug. [13 Aug. 1480]; this volume identified as v. 1 by Hain-Copinger; identified as v. 2 in Goff. UCLA volume lacks leaves pi1, pi6, Q1, Q2, V7, V8. First endpaper contains ms. title "P. Ouidij Nasonis Metamorphosis;" capital "N" on leaf 2 of v. 2 supplied in ms. red ink; pen flourishes in red along right-hand margin; slightly wormed at beginning and end with some letters of text destroyed; some leaves stained. Copious marginal manuscript notes and drawings, and some underlining, in an unknown hand. Bound in new dark brown calf, rebacked with original blind-tooled panelled covers; new spine, with gold-stamped title "Ovidius. Metamorphosis." Bookplate reads "Gift of Professor Carey," probably Frederick Mason Carey, Professor of Classics at UCLA, who also donated a leaf from the Aldine 1516 edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses; see The Aldine press: catalogue of the Ahmanson-Murphy Collection..., no. 142A. In modern brown cloth phase box; in brown leather and marbled paper slipcase, with gold-stamped case title "Ovidius Metamorphis."
