Copy 1: bound in early paneled calf with the initials IC, in gilt, on front and back boards; armorial bookplate of the Earl Fitzwilliam and plate of Milton, Peterborough and Kalbsleish. Purchased through Dawson in the Kalbfleisch sale in 1944, previously from Ormond G. Smith sale (Parke-Bernet Galleries, Nov. 1938). Housed in slipcase. Copy 2: letterpress title page precedes engraved t.p. with inscription on verso of front board, "Sent from ye library at St. Giles, October 24, 1713, W [or M?], with a shelfmark [?] on board and free endpaper in a different hand, Inner. 01-7. Inscribed Anthony Ashley Couper [1st Earl of Shaftesbury] on early printed spine waste of unidentified verse in blackletter; additional spine waste of biblical exegesis from unidentified work. Bound in early calf with floral ornaments on spine and title in gilt on red spine label. Gift of Neil and Judith Anstead in memory of Richard and Marion Vogler, 2014.
