Biographical or historical data
William Ross was a political consultant from 1948 until his retirement in 1980. In 1937, after graduating from USC, he started his own public relations firm, W.B. Ross & Associates. In 1948, he entered into a partnership with Herbert M. Baus and established Baus and Ross Campaigns. Baus and Ross was one of the first political consulting firms in California, pioneering the use of polling, direct-mail campaigns, and widespread media coverage. The firm worked on various local and state issues, including public housing, school bond issues, and tax exemptions for nonprofit institutions. It also managed campaigns for elective offices at the state and local levels and presidential primaries in California for Republican candidates.
