Biographical or historical data
Richard Nevins was born in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1921 and graduated from Yale with a B.A. in 1943. He was employed by an insurance firm and participated actively in California Democratic Party organizations. In 1958, he was elected as a representative of the fourth district to the State Board of Equalization, which he served continuously through 1986, acting at various times as its chair (1968, 1970-71, 1979-80, 1983-84). He remained active in Democratic Party politics and served as a member of the California delegation to presidential nomination conventions from 1960 through 1984.
