- Senator Song discusses his early political career in Monterey Park, the philosophy and organization of the Democratic Party and its leadership in the 1960s and 1970s. He spends considerable time on the practices of lobbying and legislating, with particularly detailed accounts of the formulation of consumer protection and legal code revision laws. Evaluations are made of many other office holders during his tenure, as well as on political changes in the legislature in the 1970s

- Biographical or historical data
- Alfred Song, a Korean American, was the first Asian American to serve in the state legislature (Assembly, 1963-1966; Senate, 1967-1978). He particularly championed consumer aid and judicial reorganization legislation as well as being an important part of the liberal Democratic majority. He retired from office following allegations of corruption and misuse of campaign funds.
