-
- Emma H. Gunterman, born in Amsterdam in 1915, was raised in a comfortable family. Coming to New York in the 1930s, she became active in the Peace Movement and the Socialist Party. After her marriage to Joe Gunterman, a conscientious objector during World War II, she lived and worked in farm labor and CO camps. After the war, as a mother of four children, she started a summer school at a farm labor camp in Gridley, CA. The summer program propelled her into lobbying and in 1967 she moved with her family to Sacramento where she lobbied on consumer, children and senior issues. In
- Sacramento, she edited two newsletters: On The Capitol Doorstep and Seniors in Sacramento. She retired in 1986.
