Summary
Writings of the Christian polemicist, Prosper of Aquitaine, disciple of St. Augustine, in which he defends the Augustinian doctrine of grace, predestination, and free will, and opposes the doctrines of Abbot John Cassian of Saint-Victor, one of the most respected monks of the era ("De gratia Dei et libero arbitrio, pro defensione Diui Aurelii Augustini, Hipponensis episcopi, contra Cassiani presbyteri librum ...") . Pope Celestine I, in response to Prosper's requests, wrote a letter of praise in defense of the teachings of St. Augustine, also included here: "Capita tredecim decretorum Coelestini Papae pro Prospero, & Hilario de gratia Dei aduersus quosdam Galliarum presbyteros, Pelagii sectatores."
