Spec. Coll. copy: Bound in 16th-century brown morocco boards, possibly French or northern Italian, decorated entirely in gilt with leaf and tendril motif except for small raised central medallion left in blind; gilt floral ornaments in spine panels; traces of two pairs of ties along fore-edges of covers; all edges gilt. Exhibition label of this volume on front pastedown, from the Burlington Fine Arts Club Exhibition of Bookbindings of 1891, lent by former owner H. Virtue Tebbs, Esq. Contemporary ownership note on rear endleaf of Caterina Libili [?]. Ownership stamps on front pastedown of Charles Ludovic Lindsay, and Belvoir Castle, dated 1926, home of the Duke of Rutland, whose manuscript acquisition note appears above: "Left me by Captain C. Lindsay 1925. [signed] Rutland." Lindsay was the nephew of Alexander, 25th Earl of Crawford, founder of Bibliotheca Lindesiana, and chief of one of the greatest book-collecting dynasties in the British Isles.
