Note
  • Salesman's dummy for Now We Are Six, printed and bound in the summer of 1927 for Methuen's reps to take round the bookshops in search of orders. The text presented here is severely abbreviated; only five poems are printed, complete with Shepard's illustrations, although not all arranged as they would eventually be. The contents leaf gives those titles and then, in a typically Milne-like arrangement continues, "And so on." Now We Are Six was the third in a series of books by Milne, preceded by When We Were Very Young (1924) and Winnie-the-Pooh (1926)
  • The [5] p. following xi preliminary pages, and the [65] p. following the 23 p. of poems are blank
  • Bound in original publisher's burgundy cloth binding, stamped in gilt on upper and lower covers with drawings of Christopher Robin playing with a toy car on upper cover, and at the railway station, buying "tikits" with Piglet. The decorated endpapers of the finished book are not present here
  • Salesman's dummy has different order of poems from finished book, although with no actual changes to the text; a much shorter list of Milne's other books (here, on the page opposite the half-title; as published, on the half-title verso); a different dedication (here "Dedication," and in finished book "To Anne Darlington now she is seven and because she is so speshal"); and omitted 2-page introduction by Milne (here only the heading is included )
  • Illustrated with drawings by E.H. Shepard; in the dummy, the t.p. drawing showing Christopher Robin doing up his braces is different in the published version; and the arrangement of the first page of "Busy" was also changed when published
  • Includes original illustrated tan paper dust jacket, printed in black; price printed on spine "7/6 net."
  • See Tori Haring-Smith, A.A. Milne: a critical bibliography (C96), which notes that the book was published October 13, 1927
