Block, a major Los Angeles author whose dozens of novels, collections, stories, and screenplays have won many awards, is perhaps best known for her Weetzie Bat books (the first of which was published in 1989), pioneering young adult books which tackle such subjects as AIDS, gay marriage, premarital sex, and abortions, all within what she describes as the "jasmine-scented, jacaranda-purple, neon-sparked city" of Los Angeles, aka Shangri-LA."
  • Colophon: "This edition of one hundred and twenty signed copies was printed on the offset press of the Libraries of CSUN. The author was Francesca Block. The calligrapher was Jessica Seaton. The designer and illustrator was Irving Block. The editor was Norman Tanis."
