Coll. copy: Sixteenth-century German binding of bevelled brown calf boards, panelled in blind with ornamental roll in St. Andrew's cross design; large blind-tooled "X" in center panel, with blind-tooled rosette medallions in each of the four side compartments; two pairs of embossed brass and leather clasps and closures on fore-edge. Early [16th-cent.?] ownership inscription on rear pastedown of Simon Botsch; another monastic inscription on t.p., dated 1587; extensive ms. notes on front pastedown and front free endpaper, and throughout text, possibly in Botsch's hand; small square bookplate in blue and white of W[ynne] R.H. J[eudwine], featuring a lobster centerpiece, and the initials "W", "R", "H", and "J" in each corner. In modern beige cloth and brown leather clamshell box, with velcro closure, and box title "Catholic Church. Missal". Purchased by James Davis from the collection of English print dealer W. R. H. Jeudwine (1920-1984), Sept. 18, 1984, from Bloomsbury Book Auctions in London.
