Summary expansion
The book, which describes how an intellectual--creative, contemplative, and introspective--should take care of his health, is arranged in three parts: De vita sana discusses melancholy, temperament of the intellectual/artist under the influence of Saturn, a concept given a visual interpretation by the German engraver Albrecht Dürer in his creation, "Melancholia"; De vita longa, discusses how to live a long and healthy life; and De vita coelitus comparanda shows that good health is affected by celestial events, and stresses the need to complement earthly medicine with heavenly medicine, as well as the important role played by astrology and magic in maintaining good health. Cf. Saturn and melancholy / R. Klibansky, E. Panofsky, and F. Saxl (1964)
