Coll. copy 1: Bound in 1 v. in dark contemporary morocco over paste boards; traces of holes along fore-edge of covers for two pairs of leather ties; blind-rolled borders of leafy circles enclosing a center panel with lozenge-shaped ornamental centerpiece and quarter-circle corner-pieces; blind-tooled spine compartments; possible remboîtage, with spine rebacked, and old spine laid down on new one; dark green edges sprinkled red and white. Apparently from the library of Charles Wehrlin, as noted in dealer's code on front pastedown. In modern dark brown cloth phase box, and matching dark brown leather and tan marbled paper slipcase; gold-stamped spine title "Cicero. De philosophia."

Coll. copy 2: Imperfect; composite vol. of v. 1, pt. 1 only, made up of parts from both 1546 and 1555 eds.: includes t.p., Paolo Manuzio's preface addressed to Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, and first gathering a8 from the 1555 ed.; gatherings b-u8--comprising most of the Academicarum quaestionum, De finibus bonorum et malorum, and Scholia Pauli Manutiii in Academicas quaestiones, et libros De finibus--are from the 1546 ed.
