Summary
Summary: autograph copy of the unpublished manuscript of Lionel's Latitudes, a fanciful travel tale created by British illustrator Walter Crane for his son Lionel, in which Lionel travels from Singland to Flaris, Prance, and then on to Splitzerland. He spends a night in Turin (where he is glad to turnin), and then continues on to Florence and Rome. The drawings and antics of Lionel in the second half of the book portray him as a rambunctious adventuresome child, "sometimes thought to be a regular little turk," who enjoys play-acting, tumbling, shooting arrows at his mother's red sunshade, attacking his sums and books in the classroom, and giving a "good account of himself to the terrible Three Rs." During his geography lesson, the two hemispheres "roll somehow into a roundish globe very like a plum pudding," and when a Snap-dragon rushes out of the flames, Lionel attacks him with "plate" armor and serves him on a platter at dinner
