  • Woodcuts: a Giolito phoenix device on title page within an oval frame, featuring a phoenix standing amidst flames spouting from the top of an urn, facing left towards the sun; a ribbon displays motto "Semper eadem;" another device on last page, featuring the phoenix atop a flaming winged orb bearing initials "G.G.F.", facing left towards the blazing sun, with motto "Semper eadem;" large historiated white initials; head- and tail-pieces; text illustrated with a few tables of numbers and geometric diagrams, and drawing of a chessboard (page 592)
  • Text printed in italic type; marginal notes in small roman type
  • Dedicatory preface by the translator Orazio Toscanella, is addressed to Baldassarra Friderico d'Ossa, and dated April 1, 1566 in Venice
