  • Author from Barbier and Gosse. Published without attribution, perhaps because (according to Gosse) Moncrif's book on cats was a source of constant mockery and teasing from his peers; see Gossip in a library, page 142

  • Engravings: of the 11 leaves of plates, 10 are engravings by the Dutch engraver Theodorus Otten (signed "T.O." or "T. Otten") of cat drawings by Charles-Antoine Coypel (signed "C. Coypel" or "Car. Coypel"). Pictured are a cat-goddess, cat pharaoh, marble cat statue on the mausoleum of the Duchess of Lesdiguières, costumed cat performers of an opera (the text of which is printed on pages 190-204), and a cat on the deathbed of her mistress whose lawyers at her bedside are drawing up a will in favor of the cat; also included are a cat medal and a cat genealogy.
