  • Woodcuts: architectural title page, featuring an elaborate sculptured pedestal flanked by figures of the Roman goddess Minerva on the left, carrying shield and lance, and figure of Peace on the right, holding olive and palm branches; Jove, king of the gods and the heavens sits above holding a scepter and trident; the Giolito phoenix device occupies the lower center of the pedestal; another larger Giolito device on last page, featuring the phoenix sitting atop a flaming urn flanked by two large seated griffins; ribbons display mottoes "Semper eadem" and "Dela mia morte eterna vita i vivo;" the 30 cantos are illustrated with 84 woodcut vignettes illustrating scenes from the poem, each vignette having decorative architectural borders on left and right sides, and a woodcut map of the world, detailing Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the equator, positions of the winds, and America labeled "Nueva Hispania;" large white historiated initials; head- and tail-pieces
  • Text of each canto arranged in 8-line stanzas in two columns, printed in italic type
