Note
  • Signatures: a-c4 B-Z4 Aa-Dd4
  • Engravings: engraved architectural title page featuring cherubs mounted on centaurs playing pipe and harp, two boars' heads, eagles, grotesque heads, and swags of fruit and leaves; 63 numbered copperplate engraved medallion portraits in elaborate surrounds; nine of the plates depict arrays of twelve medallions (arranged in four rows of three), although none of the nine has all twelve filled in, leaving some medallions empty (XVII, XXI, XXV, XXVII, XXIX, XLII, XLV, LXI, LXIII)
  • Of the four single medallions described by Mortimer in the Harvard College Library catalog as being blank, only two in the UCLA copy (second issue, being numbered with Roman numerals) have been left empty (XV, XXIII); the other two (IIII and XI) contain portraits which were subsequently crossed out in ink.
  • The 63 numbered copperplate engravings and many of the mythological initials also appear in the Aldine 1558 Augustarum imagines printed by Paolo Manuzio; see Renouard, A.A. Annales de l'imprimerie des Alde, page 176, no. 18
  • Woodcuts: Valgrisi's device on last page, featuring a serpent entwined around a tau cross grasped by two disembodied hands; five small woodcut medallions in text; 5-line mythological initials
  • Text printed in italic type
  • Includes index
  • Errata: pages [1]-[2] at end
  • Title page reads "Libro primo," although no more volumes were ever published
