Summary
First edition of the first published play by the actor-playwright Andrea Calmo, who used chaos in action, languages with no written tradition, and fantastical characters to create an objective reality that delighted princes, prelates, merchants and the uneducated.

Summary expansion
Of low birth, Calmo was inspired by songs, proverbs, jokes, tall tales, verse, and gossip he heard in the streets, cafes, brothels, shops and warehouses. In the present work, three suitors pursue an off-stage beauty, hindered (in the guise of help) in their respective quests of conquest by cunning peasants and pages, who ultimately guarantee each of the character's injury, humiliation and disappointment. Calmo himself played the role of the Bargamo native, Scarpella. Each of the five acts consists of one scene
