  • Spec. Coll. copy: first issue, having the table on leaf 4a arranged "per ordinem litterarum alphabeti" and not "secundum ordinem librorum" as in the second issue. Contemporary Venetian binding of beech boards covered with dark brown blind-tooled morocco, picked out with small copper-gilt roundels in gesso; four pairs of small brass bosses on front cover; four brass hatches on back cover, front clasps missing. First free endpaper is a vellum leaf with ms. text in Latin in an early unidentified hand. Recto of first leaf of text contains a few manuscript notations, and ownership inscription of Lucretius Palladius, dated 1670; printed bookplate of C.S. Acherson, and round gold-stamped black leather armorial bookplate of John Roland Abbey on inside upper board. Marginal ms. annotations underlinings, and pointing fingers in different hands, in ink--some of which may be in Palladius' hand--and others in brown crayon. In modern beige cloth-covered phase box; in marbled paper and brown leather slipcase, with box title "Diogenes Laertius. Vitae et senteniae [sic] philosophorum."
  • Clark Library copy: leaf [a11] is blank ; early underscoring and marginalia throughout, with title written in contemporary [?] manuscript on leaf [a1r]; bound in calf, stamped in blind and gilt with title in gilt on green spine labels, marbled endpapers.
