Note
  • Imprint date on title page of UCLA Library copy, MDCCLXXV, has been altered in manuscript to read: MDCCLXXVIII.
  • Signatures: A-F4
  • Almost certainly printed in Tuscany (Livorno? Siena?), "Konisberga" being a cover sometimes used by the Sienese printers and booksellers Luigi and Benedetto Bindi; see M. Parenti, Dizionario dei luoghi di stampa falsi, inventati o supposti, p. 106
  • Probable date from a letter dated November 1777 by the Florentine censor Pelli Bencivenni, in which Bencivenni remarks on the "venom" in Voltaire's poem "which cannot be obliterated through the omission of the odd passage." It is likely that the present volume was produced not long before; see L. Macé, "L'edition clandestine dans la Toscane des reformes: le cas de Voltaire," in La lettre clandestine, no. 7 (1998). Paris: Presses de l'Université de Paris-Sorbonne, 1999, p. 244, note 24
  • Bibliographical footnotes, lettered A-N, on p. 33-34
Dimensions
