Summary expansion
The first edition of 1561 appeared some twenty years after the death of Guicciardini, published under the direction of Guicciardini's nephew, Agnolo Guicciardini, and printed in Venice by Lorenzo Torrentino. The first edition, as well as those of 1562 and 1563, included only the first sixteen books of the history, since the last four--Books 17-20--remained unfinished. The 1564 edition was the first to include all twenty books; see National union catalog, pre-1956 imprints, 222:319
